Somewhere between the drug fueled, hard lined, libertarian Hunter S. Thompson and the tenacious Carl Kolchak of old fictional television series, The Night Stalker, Harold Drake is a relentless investigative journalist who has spent his share of days in jails around the universe for a variety of reasons. Some related to drugged mind-benders that he doesn't fully recall and, more often, to shut him up while his data banks are searched and wiped by the Advocacy Black Ops (which do not officially exist but everyone knows about) to keep some of the more nefarious workings of the UEE under tight control. Because of his notoriety it is easier to hold him and destroy his evidence than to just assassinate him. The backlash of an assassination would only lend credence to what the UEE calls tabloid journalism.
