The most dangerous thing in space? It’s a man stripped of his home and left to drift in space. When a man has one purpose in life, he will do anything to achieve it.

That is when you are left wondering, “Is he really lost drifting in space, or just planning his next move?”

History

The concept of the 458th PMC “Devil’s Needle” was born from the ashes of what is now known as the “Fall of Caliban” in 2884. A group of survivors, inspired and saved by the selfless actions of the 88th “Lost Squad”, vowed that they would one day take back their home. The handful of survivors were relocated to New Corvo, Aremis, Vega System. After spending a few years working up the ranks at the military logistics hub, the group was able to get their hands on three ships, a Vanguard Harbinger and two P5G Gladius’. Little did this group know, these ships would kick off a series of events that would make their dreams go from little more than wishful thinking, to actually achievable.

By 2896, the survivors had grown from a scant group of survivors to a 18 strong force, touting now two Harbingers, five gladius, and retaliator retrofit for cargo transport. Taking inspiration from the 78th Bomb Squadron “Thundering Thorshu”, they began to provide humanitarian aid and skirmishing with local bands of pirates.

During an unfortunate stroke of luck in 2902, one of the group’s pilots came across a smuggling fleet at the Oberon jump point. The smugglers had led the pilot unknowingly right to their outpost amongst the asteroids. Knowing they were going to be out gunned, the group employed some unusual tactics. A plan was created and they set off. After drifting for an hour all targets were acquired, targets disseminated and prioritized, and finally the missiles were let loose on the forty-five targets. One of the pirates had family ties to earth and remembered tales of an insect his ancestors called a dragonfly. He heard that they never missed an attack and their prey wouldn’t even know what hit them. Colloquially these insects were known as the Devil’s Needle. Word quickly spread in the local criminal underground that these Devil’s Needles destroyed 45 ships with only 8 ships.

In 2945, fearing a repeat of Caliban in the Vega System, the Devil’s Needles struck with a vengeance. Putting their hard learned skills to the test, they managed to cripple the supply lines to the King Ship and created holes in the enemies defense that could be exploited by the UEEN. Ultimately the King Ship was destroyed and their efforts caught the attention and appreciation of the 2nd fleet.

In 2946 upon the passing of the Militia Mobilization Act, the group was officially adopted into the Civilian Defense Force under the moniker 458th PMC “Devil’s Needle”, paying homage to the 45 kills credited to the 8 ships officially involved. Now closely tied to the UEEN, they have been tasked to start-up operations in the Stanton system in response to the increased pirate activity.

Manifesto

Devil’s Needle represents an organization of players who wish to exploit the stealth, long-range combat, intelligence, and exploration game-play within Star Citizen. Our goal is to retake the Virgil System from the Vanduul and support the refugees who have lost their homes because of another species or pirate faction who invaded their system.

Anti-Piracy: We will not stand for the persecution of any population by the hands of any human or non-human species who act aggressively toward a civilian population for no other reason than personal gain or in the attempt to exploit the local population.

Force Projection: We will ensure that every attempt to take back the Virgil System is taken and every means of exploitation against the Vanduul is found. Their needless and violent actions require a strong show of force to ensure any attempt they make to harvest another system is repelled and likewise eradicated from whatever systems they currently inhabit.

Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance: “ True genius resides in the capacity for evaluation of uncertain, hazardous, and conflicting information.” In its macroscopic sense, the ISR links several battlefield functions together to assist a combat force in employing its sensors and managing the information they gather of timely, accurate, relevant, coherent and assured information and intelligence to support commander’s conduct of activities.

Humanitarian: The needs of the refugees displaced by Vanduul attacks must be looked after. The loss of a home is more than just the loss of a place, we in the 458th know that feeling all too well. Without a home, there can be a struggle to find purpose, and without purpose, there is an ill justification for rash and unforgivable actions. Because of this, the 458th strives to provide supplies, safe lanes of travel, and security escorts to any humanitarian fleets within our sphere of influence.

Charter

First and foremost, thank you for taking the time out of your day to read the following message from the 458th officers.

We are a small community striving for quality over quantity and respect that real life comes before a video game. We have plans to remain small in numbers and focusing on constant improvement within our craft of stealth, ISR, and large ground/air target elimination. Though we will have an Org story-line, we do not expect much in the way of RP outside of that and will not force any RP onto our members. This is to say, there will be Org events that are NOT story-based but will fall in-line with our Org manifesto.

Again, thank you for your time and see you out in the ‘Verse
