APEX Security Services / APEXPMC

APEX Security Services, KG (often referred to simply as APEX) is an active security contracting firm founded in 2940 CE as a registered trademark of SOLUS, AG. APEX’s main offices are found in the Terra System and the company contracts to industrial operations across United Empire space. In addition to providing personal and corporate security, APEX is a licensed affiliate of the Bounty Hunter’s Guild and therefore regularly cooperates with law enforcement officials in the apprehension of wanted criminals.

APEX is the brainchild of former UEEN fighter pilots Alexander Staffen and Otto von Kunstmann. Towards the end of their tour of duty Staffen and von Kunstmann regularly conversed about life after mustering out; their topics ranged everywhere from vacation spots to market contacts to regional politics, but in particular they seemed focused on both career opportunities and the rising crime on the edges of space. Out of these conversations came a mutual acknowledgement of three points:

1. The expansion of the United Empire has created a desperate demand for increased infrastructure.
2. The increased infrastructure has led to increased numbers of tradesmen operating across space, particularly in frontier systems beyond legal jurisdiction of reliable law enforcement.
3. The increased flux of tradesmen in these remote regions has encouraged a rise in piracy and organized crime.

Private military contractors already existed by the dozens in the Empire, but they were typically restricted to specific cliques of ex-Navy personnel, tending towards elitist recruitment policies which heavily restricted their capacity for growth. Seeing the potential of a more open organization, Alexander Staffen and Otto von Kunstmann chartered APEX Security Services as a subsidiary of SOLUS, the partnership they formed as overhead for profit management.

Staffen and von Kunstmann spent a year gathering financial support to launch their business by giving lectures across Imperial space on the state of frontier security. In early 2941 they received both a corporate start-up grant and their first contract, and soon after officially opened the APEX headquarters at Terra Prime.
