Origins on The Rock

The Orphan Brotherhood traces its origins to a harsh and unyielding mining colony known simply as “The Rock,” a barren asteroid deep within unclaimed space of the Nyx System. The Rock was a place of toil and despair, where survival depended on grit and resourcefulness. Among its inhabitants were the orphans, children left parentless by Vanduul raids, mining accidents, or the unforgiving nature of space itself. These orphans banded together in the shadows of the colony, scavenging and surviving as best they could.

It was in this crucible of hardship that the Brotherhood was born. A pragmatic leader, known only as The First Son, emerged among the orphans. Drawing from the harsh realities of their existence, The First Son forged a code of survival and loyalty. They became a family built on necessity and mutual trust, calling themselves the Sons to No One—a defiant rejection of the world that had abandoned them.

Scattered to the stars – The Vanduul Incursions

Under The First Son’s leadership, The Brotherhood scavenged abandoned ships, weapons, and supplies, transforming themselves into a guerrilla force. Their tactics were born of desperation and ingenuity, and over time were honed into martial skill that became renowned in the sector, along with their proclivity to wear armour that completely obscured their faces. This act of defiance ensured their anonymity and survival, but left them hardened by the experience, shaping their reputation as resourceful, unnamed survivors willing to do whatever it took to endure.

In 2940 Vanduul incursions increased in frequency in the sector and The Rock, already a precarious refuge, became a battleground wasteland.

With The Rock left in ruins; the Brotherhood scattered across the stars. They became a nomadic order, bound not by ideals but by a shared commitment to survival and loyalty to one another. Their creed evolved into a pragmatic philosophy: protect your own, endure the trials of the universe, and never forget the bonds that tie you to your brethren.

Known not to shy away from morally ambiguous actions if it means securing their survival or advancing a greater objective, the Brotherhood are not above bending the rules or engaging in morally grey endeavors when the ends justify the means. Their code is simple: survival and loyalty above all else.

The Fall of The First Son and the Return of Devon Nyx

Over time, the Brotherhood’s numbers dwindled. With no central leadership to guide them, many cells disbanded or faded into obscurity. The Brotherhood, once a name spoken with respect and caution, became little more than a memory and The First Son disappeared into obscurity, rumoured to have met his end in combat with the Vanduul.

Devon Nyx, a former member who had left The Brotherhood to carve out his own path, returned. Devon had endured his own trials in the vast expanse of the universe, and the lessons he learned hardened his resolve. He found remnants of the Brotherhood—disillusioned, fractured, and aimless—and began the arduous task of rebuilding.

Devon rallied the scattered members under a renewed purpose and they bestowed on him the title of The First Son. He did not seek to restore the Brotherhood to its former glory but to forge something new from its ashes: a collective of survivors who would look out for one another and endure, no matter the odds. Devon’s leadership brought a sharper edge to the Brotherhood, emphasizing adaptability and cunning while holding fast to their core values of loyalty and survival.

Modern-Day Operations

Today, the Orphan Brotherhood operates as a decentralized organization. They are bounty hunters, mercenaries, and freelancers, always seeking opportunities to secure resources and protect their own. They are particularly active in regions plagued by Vanduul activity, where they continue to fight against the alien menace that shaped their history—often for pay, but always with an eye on their collective survival.

Despite their scattered nature, the Brotherhood maintains strong ties through a network of secret meeting places and encrypted communication channels. Members often mark their ships and armor with the sigil of a Vanduul skull; signifying the historical period when they transformed from orphans into apex predators.

Legacy and Belief

The Brotherhood’s ethos is rooted in pragmatism and loyalty. They do not see themselves as heroes or saviors but as survivors navigating a hostile universe. They value self-reliance and the strength found in unity, holding fast to the belief that their shared bond is the only thing they can truly depend on.

Our Purpose

We are the Orphan Brotherhood, a collective born of necessity and bound by loyalty. We are not saviors, nor are we conquerors. We are survivors in a universe that has shown us no mercy. Our Creed

Survival Above All Else. The galaxy is unforgiving, and survival demands anonymity, resourcefulness, adaptability, and resolve. We do what we must to ensure our collective endurance and we keep our identity a secret.

Loyalty to the Brotherhood. We are bound not by blood but by choice. Each member is a brother or sister, and we stand together, no matter the cost. Betrayal is the only crime we do not forgive.

Pragmatism in ActionMorality is a luxury we cannot always afford. While we do not exploit the innocent, we are not above actions to which the ends justifies the means. Every decision we make is weighed against its benefit to the Brotherhood.

Article I: Membership Requirements

Membership Exclusivity. Membership with “The Brotherhood” is not exclusive and is encouraged.

Age Requirement. Membership is restricted to individuals aged 17 and older. This ensures maturity and alignment with the Brotherhood’s values and operational style.

Behavior and Conduct. Members are expected to maintain a respectful and cooperative demeanor. Toxic behavior, harassment, or actions that undermine the group’s cohesion will not be tolerated.

Commitment to Roleplay and Immersion. Members should demonstrate a commitment to immersive gameplay, including the proper use of in-game mechanics and adherence to operational protocols.

Article II: Core Values

Loyalty to the Brotherhood. Members must prioritize the collective well-being of the organization and act in ways that uphold its integrity.

Adaptability and Resourcefulness. Members are encouraged to think creatively and adapt to challenges, leveraging all available resources to achieve objectives.

Teamwork and Communication. Clear and effective communication is vital during operations. Members should use designated communication protocols and maintain situational awareness.

Article III: Gameplay Standards

Immersive Operations

Members are expected to approach gameplay with a focus on immersion. This includes operating ships properly, adhering to flight protocols, and utilizing ground vehicles or on-foot traversal for short-to-medium distances when appropriate.

The Brotherhood values realism in its actions; members should not prioritize convenience over immersion.

Organised Gameplay

During missions or group activities, members will follow a “light milsim” approach. This includes using clear comms and coordinating effectively to achieve objectives.

Members should demonstrate discipline and readiness during group operations, ensuring smooth and enjoyable experiences for all participants.

Prohibited Activities

Piracy and exploitation of other players are prohibited unless explicitly agreed upon as part of a broader strategic objective. The Brotherhood does not condone griefing or disruptive gameplay.

Article IV: Leadership and Decision-Making

Leadership Structure

Leadership roles are earned through demonstrated commitment, skill, and contribution to the Brotherhood’s success.

Leaders are responsible for organizing operations, resolving disputes, and ensuring the group’s values are upheld.

Article V: Operations and Objectives

The Brotherhood engages in a variety of activities, including bounty hunting, mercenary work, trade, exploration, and anti-Vanduul operations. These activities should align with the group’s values and objectives.

Operational Conduct

Members are expected to approach operations with professionalism and focus. Proper preparation, including gear checks and mission briefings is encouraged.

Training and Development

Training can be held on request to improve skills, foster teamwork, and ensure operational readiness.

Article VI: Disciplinary Actions

Violations

Members found in violation of the Brotherhood’s values, standards, or rules will be subject to review by leadership.

Resolution

Article VII: Joining and Leaving

Application Process

Prospective members must complete an onboarding interview, followed by a trial period at the community rank of “Initiate” to ensure compatibility with the Brotherhood’s culture and values.

Voluntary Departure

Members are free to leave the Brotherhood at any time. Notice and feedback are encouraged.

Rejoining

Former members in good standing may reapply for membership through the onboarding interview process.
