History

Our roots can be traced back to World War II on Earth. The British started disarming German bombs that failed to detonate and soon the Americans began receiving training from the British knowing that they too would need that expertise as well. Over the centuries while munitions improved and became more reliable there were still ones that failed to function as designed and that it what has kept the need for trained EOD Technicians relevant.

Our mission is to be there when that missile that slams into your ship fails to detonate.

Meaning of the EOD Badge

The Bomb copied from the design of the World War II Bomb Disposal Badge, the bomb represents the historic and major objective of the EOD attack, the unexploded bomb. The three fins represent the major areas of nuclear, conventional and chemical/biological interest.

Lightning Bolts symbolize the potential destructive power of the bomb and the courage and professionalism of EOD personnel in their endeavors to reduce hazards as well as to render explosive ordnance harmless.

The Shield represents the EOD mission – to prevent a detonation and protect the surrounding area and property to the utmost

The Wreath symbolic of the achievements and laurels gained minimizing accident potentials through the ingenuity and devotion to duty of its members. It is in memory of those EOD personnel who gave their lives while performing EOD duties.

Our motto: Initial Success or Total Failure!

The United States Air Force Chief of Staff, Gen. Norton Schwartz said in May 2012 at the EOD Memorial that an EOD Technician has “The brains of an engineer, the hands of a surgeon and the courage of a martyr.” Not much has changed in the last 900+ years!
