It should come as no surprise that Vox Mortem’s past is shrouded in secrecy. Even the Highest ranking members themselves have only the haziest of understandings as to how their organization was founded, and must rely on hundreds of disparate and contradictory legends for guidance. Indeed, there is a branch of the Vox Mortem itself, the Seekers, dedicated to unraveling millennia of myths, exaggerations and lies. This is a difficult task, raised to impossibility due to the opposing work of another internal sec, the Silentium, who focus their own efforts into deliberately obscuring the past by sealing records or simply destroying them and making sure witnesses are silenced, lest the enemies of Vox Mortem discover some advantage through knowledge of their beginnings.

Though it is widely known that Vox Mortem exists, its deeds are all but impossible to trace.

Vox Mortem in the present day has evolved to be a well known bounty hunter guild on the surface. It is known for its unwavering record of capturing its marks whether an infamous criminal or a small time outlander. It is not unheard of for criminals to surrender once they are aware that Vox Mortem has taken their contract, for the lengths Vox Mortem will go to are sometimes worse than simply serving their conviction. For the wanted, Vox Mortem is a nightmare, but to their clients, a godsend. This is all on the surface. Unbeknownst to a large portion of its own members is the true power that Vox Mortem weilds. There is rumored to be a faceless brotherhood that operates from the shadows. These members of this circle know not the identity of their brothers in arms. Their secret identity hid behind masks as a way to ensure Vox Mortem is un-killable as well as a way to protect themselves. If a brother was to fall another could take his place to complete the task at hand and none the wiser. This is all rumor and hearsay because the brotherhood goes to great lengths to protect their greatest secret, their very existence. But none can deny the fact that Vox Mortem has the power to influence politicians or to simply make the unwanted disappear, to recover highly guarded items to corporate espionage.
