Equuleus, meaning "Little Horse" lies in the Northern Hemisphere's fourth quadrant (NQ4). Constellation Equuleus was first popularized by Greek astronomer Ptolemy in the 2nd century.
Because Equuleus rises just before the constellation Pegasus, it's sometimes also known as EQUUS PRIMUS, or "First Horse."
Equuleus’ brightest star is KITALPHA /alpha Equulei/ (m+3.919) Its nearest star, HD 200779, is 48 light years from Earth. Constellation Equuleus contains three stars with known exo-planets: HD 200964 (spectral class K0IV) has two Jupiter-sized planets, while stars WASP-90 (F6) and HAT-P-65 (G2) each have one known transiting planet.
MYTHOS
Equuleus, daughter of Chiron, was seduced by Aeolus. Afraid to tell her father she was with child, she escaped to the mountains and stayed there until she gave birth. Equuleus prayed to the gods that Chiron wouldn't find her and was turned into a young foal by Artemis, who then placed her amongst the stars.
